Point cloud support is enhanced in AutoCAD 2012. It includes an improved indexing algorithm for generating PCG files in addition to optimized viewing at changing zoom levels. Learn more about point clouds and how you can use laser scanning technology to bring the real world into the CAD environment from Scott Diaz, Managing Director of kubit USA.

AutoCAD 2012 now offers auto-complete options to help you access commands more efficiently. As you type in the Command prompt (or use dynamic input), AutoCAD automatically completes the entry with an AutoCAD command or command alias. If you pause, it displays a list of all the commands whose prefix matches what you’ve typed, enabling you to scroll and select from the list.
A right-click menu provides easy access to the new AutoComplete controls, including the ability to display system variables and specify the delay response for displaying the AutoComplete list.
In the Command window, the command history is distinguished from the active command line with a grey background color. You can modify the various colors associated with the command window using the Drawing Window Colors dialog box, which is accessible from the Display tab of the Options dialog box.
The power of multifunctional grips has been extended to more AutoCAD objects, including lines, arcs, elliptical arcs, dimensions, and mleaders, as well as 3D faces, edges, and vertices. Access relevant options for the selected object by hovering the cursor over a grip.
Using multifunctional grips with dynamic input turned on allows you to edit the object via relevant dimensional values. For example, when you choose the Lengthen option for a selected line, dynamic input dimensions for the total length and the incremental length are displayed. You can use the Tab key to switch between the two values. Similarly, elliptical arcs have been updated to support dynamic input for the major and minor axes. When you hover the cursor over a quadrant grip with dynamic input enabled, the distances from the center to the quadrants are displayed along the major and minor axes. If you click on the grip, you can edit the values.
Autodesk has just announced the release of AutoCAD 2012 and the Autodesk 2012 product portfolio. AutoCAD 2012 includes many great enhancements to help you work more efficiently from conceptual design through documentation.
Use existing 3D models from a variety of file formats as a starting point for your designs in AutoCAD. Now you can import 3D models from many file formats including CATIA, JT, NX, Parasolid, Pro/ENGINEER, Rhino, SolidWorks, and more!
Generate intelligent 2D documentation for 3D models. If your drawing includes 3D solids or surfaces, whether they were created in AutoCAD or imported from other file formats, you can use the new model documentation tools to quickly create 2D drawing views. You can even produce 2D drawings from Autodesk Inventor files!
Establish and maintain a set of relationships between arrayed objects in 2D or 3D space. You can dynamically edit array properties even after the array has been created!
The power of multi-functional grips has been extended to more types of objects in AutoCAD 2012 providing easy access to relevant options for the selected object.

Autodesk hosted a media webcast this afternoon at the Autodesk Gallery in San Francisco. If you missed it, you can still catch the latest news via the recorded session. Visit www.autodesk.com/webcast and enter the required information (name, email).
If you haven’t yet had the opportunity to try AutoCAD for Mac, visit www.autodesk.com/autocadformac where you can download the free 30-day trial. You’ll also find information including system requirements and frequently asked questions. And, don’t forget to visit AutoCAD Exchange where you can view Lynn Allen’s AutoCAD for Mac videos and begin taking advantage of all that AutoCAD for Mac has to offer!
They are also conducting a series of paid research sessions over the next few weeks. At the end of the survey, you will have a chance to sign up for sessions if you are interested.
Who they're looking for: People who are familiar with lighting, rendering, or visual styles
What it involves: If you are selected to participate, they will get in touch with you to set up a study time. During the 1-hour session:
• You will work 1-1 with a facilitator using meeting software and the phone • They will observe part of your work process and ask questions • You will be given a $30 Amazon gift card as a thank-you for your time
Dates: They are conducting studies during the week of March 7th and the week of March 14th.
The AutoCAD team looks forward to receiving your feedback!
